Anti-Conversion Law

The Allahabad High Court held that distributing Bible copies and preaching Christian doctrine do not constitute offences under the UP anti-conversion law without proof of coercion. The Court criticised the police for acting in haste and registering an FIR despite no identified victim or allegation of actual conversion.

The Supreme Court has quashed the FIR filed under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act against the Vice Chancellor of SHUATS. The Court observed that mere allegations of religious conversion without supporting evidence cannot justify prosecution under the anti-conversion law, emphasizing the need for concrete proof and procedural fairness.
